about

The Almanac is the Sven’s new ‘magnum hopeless’ about New Zealand, land of laid-back catastrophe. It covers the many ways things go wrong in NZ. From scrum collapses, arson and floods to dangerous zoo animals, bird wrecks, boy racers and rogue arborists … it’s all in The Almanac.

The Svens are an 18 piece pop orchestra from Wellington. The Almanac is the follow up to their 2010 acclaimed album – Songs From The Bottom of the Hilltop.

The Almanac was three years in the making and took the combined efforts of nearly forty singers and musicians, ranging from school kids to grandparents.

The Almanac plays out like a Kiwi musical, with several lead singers and extensive use of strings and choirs across a range of pop styles.

The Almanac is a warts and all social survey of NZ, two skinny islands just shy of Antarctica, soaked in alcohol for 160 years, lashed with wild weather, stirred by occasional earthquake and populated with some of the loosest people on earth.
